Easy Model 36160 Char B1 France Saumur

Char B1

The Char 1 tank was one of the best tanks of its time.
No german tank in this time was able to destroy it by firing on the heavyliy armoured front. - For example the tank "Eure" destroyed 11 Panzer III, 2 Panzer IV and 2 anti tank guns in Stonne on May 16th 1940, suffering 140 hits without beeing destroyed.
On the other side its range was to low for modern tank warfare. - Based on the experience of world war I it was an offensive tank to break trough fortifications and to cross trenches but not for fast long range movement like the German tanks.
Additionally the turret was made for just one man, the commander. He had to command, load, aim and fire at the target. Too much for one man, especially if he was the commander of a comlete unit.
