Panzer I (tank mark I) was the first serial produced tank of German Wehrmacht.
The first prototypes were produced in the year 1933 while the serial production started 1934.
They were named „Landwirtschaftlicher Schlepper“ (LaS) ( agricultural tractor) as it was forbidden for Germany in the contract of Versailles to produce tanks after world war I.
Panzer I was equipped with 2 machine guns only.
It was successful in the campaign against Poland but against infantry and cavalry only.
It was quickly clear that Panzer I was obsolete against tanks of major powers.
So the carriages were used for conversions like ammunition tractors, driving school , pioneer and command tanks.
To use the carriages for fighting, anti-tank guns were mounted on the chassis, mainly the Czech 4.7 cm anti-tank gun.
So the first tank hunters were created. Many others followed on other carriages.
The most heavy gun on a Panzer I carriage was a heavy infantry gun with a calibre of 15 cm.
This was the “Schweres Infanterie Geschütz 33” (siG 33).
We have no proof of a Panzer I with a 7.5 cm anti-tank gun, so a Panzer I equipped with this gun is used as a project for our German tabletop game STRATAK Panzerschlacht.
