Artitec 6870222 UK DUKW Europe amphibious vehicle in the scale 1/87
Ready built and painted model in olive green.
Information about the vehicle:
- The amphibious vehicle DUKW was developed to resupply units which had just performed an amphibious landing.
- It was originally rejected by the US forces. Since the crew of a US cost guard patrol craft which ran aground on a sand bar was saved by a DUKW which was in the area for demonstration, despite of stormy weather conditions which made it impossible for conventional vehicles to save them, the US forces changed their mind.
- The DUKW was used in world war II and in the Korea war.
- The term DUKW comes from the internal nomenclature of the General Motors Cooperation (GMC):
- D = Designed in 1942
- U = Utility
- K = All wheel drive
- W = Dual tandem rear axles
- Colloquially it was called „Duck“.
- Until 1945 more than 20.000 DUKW were built.
