Information about the tank:

• The "M48 Medium Tank - 90 mm Gun" got the name of General S. Patton who was one of the first US americans who supported the massive usage of tanks. He educated the first 500 US amerikan tank drivers as 1st lieutenant during World War One and was commander of the Third United States Army in World War II.
• The M48 has been delivered since 1952.
• Between 1952 to 1959 (or 1960) about 12.000 tanks were built. Most of them were equipped with petrol (gasoline) engines which needed a lot of fuel and caused a short range.
• Since 1963 some models were converted and Diesel engines were installed in the version M48A3.
• Since 1956 Germany received M48 tanks.
• The M48A2 was equipped with a more efficient and smaller V12 motor which caused together with bigger fuel tanks a doubled range. Other parts were modified as well.
• Since 1978 650 M48A2C were converted to M48A2GA2 and received the 105 mm gun of the german tank Leopard 1 including another gun cover as well as another commander turret, a german machine gun MG3 and other parts for night fight.
• About 600 M48 tanks were used In the vietnam war since 1965 and the southern vietnam army received M48A3 tanks. It was good in infantry support and destroyed a lot north vietnam T-34 and T-55 tanks built by Russia in 1975 when Saigon was attacked and taken by the north vietnam army.
• During fights on the Westbank the jordanian army fought with M48 against israeli M4 Sherman World War II tanks built in the US and equipped with other guns. Israel captured about 100 M48 tanks in this conflict.
• Israel fought with M48 tanks in the Six-Day-War against egyptian T-34 and T-55 tanks built by Russia on the Sinai peninsula.
• It was used by the pakistani army against the indish army in the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971.
• It was used in the Lebanon civil war and in Africa in minor conflicts.
• The M48 has been used and still is in use by many nations.
