Artitec 6870235 US tank M60A1 MERDC
Ready buildt and painted US army tank model in MERDC camouflage.
- From the mid 1970s to the mid 1980s the US forces vehicles were painted with a MERDC camouflage pattern.
- Different camouflage patterns were used with a mixture of 9 different colours. Each pattern consisted of 4 different colours. 2 primary and 2 secondary colours. For example olive green and brown as primary colours with a coverage of 45% each and sand colour and black as secondary colours with a coverage of 5% each.
- MERDC stands for Mobility Equipment Research & Development Command.
Information about the tank:
- The M60 was the successor of the M48 tank. It was for approximately 30 years the standard tank of the US forces.
- He was used by many allied forces of the United States and still is in use.
- As the M60 was developed to fight against sovjet tanks like the T-54, the first tanks were delivered to the US forces in West Germany.
- It was used in action by Israel during the Jom-Kippur war, in Sinai and the Golan Heights and proved to be successful against Egyptian and Syrian T-54 and T-55.
- Additionally it was used in the Operation Desert Storm to free Kuwait where it was successfully fighting against Iraqi T-54, T-55 and T-72 tanks.
- The M60 was exchanged by the M1 Abrams in the US forces but is still in use in the US national guard and in many allied forces as they are not able to pay for expensive modern tanks.
