- Artitec 6870192 tank hunter Panzerjäger Ferdinand in the scale 1/87
- German forces tank in camouflage colour of the battle of Kursk
Information about the tank:
The tank hunter Ferdinand was a result of a development for a Tiger version by Ferdinand Porsche which explains the nick name.
Porsche's development was interesting because of extraordinary ideas but is proofed to be a failure, so the Henchel sdesign was chosen for the Tiger production.
Anyway 90 already built undercarriages were equipped by Alkett with a fixed structure and a heavy gun by Alkett and Maybach engines instead of the planned Porsche Diesels which were not ready.
These tanks were sent to Russia and Italy.
The first version did not have a machine gun which proofed to be a severe mistake as russian infantry was able to damage and destroy these tanks with explosives.
In general this first version is called Ferdinand.
The second version had a machine gun in the front hull. This version is commonly called Elefant which was the official name.
Despite of the tanks low velocity, players of the tabletop game STRATAK BATTLES PANZERSCHLACHT like this tank because of its heavy armour and powerful gun.
Perhaps as this game is usually played without infantry.
