Information about the tank:
- The Tiger tank was one of the most known german tanks in world war II.
- Its cannon was superior to most allied tanks. And the King Tiger was declared to be a great danger on the battlefield when the tank appeared.
It was difficult to kill this tank with shots on the front.
But the allies developed tactics to attack the tank on the rear side.
Its high weight and slow speed caused low performance to avoid these tacticts.
- An open Tiger can be visited in the Technik Museum in Sinsheim in southern Germany (no guarantee, that this Tiger has not been moved to another museum).
- The only usable Tiger with regularly displays in the field and explanations (Tiger Day) can be visited in the tank museum Bovington in southern England.
Zimmerit was a paste against magnetic mines.
Michael Wittmann was the most successful tank commander of world war II.
He killed 131 tanks, 132 anti tank guns and many more other targets.
One of his most famous actions was the attack of the 22nd tank brigade of the 7th british tank division allone with his tank crew without any german support.
He killed 25 british tanks, trucks and reconnaissance vehicles.
More information about Michael Wittmann can be found in the Panzermuseum Munster in northern Germany.
