Artitec 6870469 Panzer II tank MK II version B / C winter
Highly detailled prepainted model for a model railway in the scale 1/87 H0
Information about the tank:
The Panzer II tank (MK II) was a light tank used for reconnaissance.
The first tanks were delivered in 1935 as Sonderkraftfahrzeug (special motorized vehicle) Sd.Kfz 121 despite the fact that the contract of Versailles did not allow Germany to build tanks.
So the description Landwirtschaftlicher Schlepper LaS 100 („agricultural tractor 100“) was used.
It was build until 1944 in different variants even if it was clear that it was not dtrong enough.
Anyway this tank was successful during the „Blitzkrieg“ in Poland and France.
During the drive through the Ardennes for a surprise attak of France the „Panzer II“ had the advantage to be small and light. So it was possible to cross the Ardennes.
It was not expected by France, that an army could attack France by passing the Ardennes.
Even an information by a french reconnaissance pilot about a column passing the Ardennes was ignored.
Decommissioned Panzer II tanks were reconstructed to several weapon carriers:
- flame thrower tank
- motor gun carriage for anti tank guns
- tank hunter „Marder II“
- tracked howitzer „Wespe“
- assault tank II with heavy infantry gun 15 cm
